Now we are ready to dive into from preparing USB for bootable USB to making
it bootable
below are the steps to follow
-
Let us start with listing disk with below command
DISKPART>list disk
-
Here we will be selecting storage media , in my situation I connected USB
for this purpose. Run below command to select partition, I selected Disk 2
for this purpose
DISKPART>select disk 2
-
This selected storage media may have some form of data or partition already
on it , we don't want any of that
for that purpose we will start with cleaning up USB partition table, run below command to clean the disk -
Now we have clean storage media , we will start with creating partition
DISKPART>create partition primary
-
Once the partition is created, let us go ahead and list partitions to make
sure process was successful as expected
DISKPART>list partition
-
We can see only one partition in list, we will select listed partition
DISKPART>select partition 1
-
After selecting partition , we will format partition with NTFS file
system
DISKPART>format fs=ntfs quick
-
Once partition is formatted , now our USB is accessible from file explorer
to store media in it. last step to make it bootable is by making it active,
run below command to activate partition, so system can recognize it as
bootable
DISKPART>active
-
Windows should assign drive letter automatically but just in case if it
doesn't, run bellow command
DISKPART>assign
- now we can exit DISKPART tool by
DISKPART>exit
DISKPART>clean
